Whether you’re unpacking your first Traeger grill or dusting off your trusty Traeger—Welcome to the Traeger family!

Traeger wood pellet grills are very efficient and will cook your food to perfection once you’ve started the grill properly. Follow this simple how to start a Traeger tutorial.

Your Traeger needs a few minutes to warm up or pre-heat, the Traeger start up process will get the hardwood pellets flowing into the firepot and elevate the temperature to your desired temperature.

First, make sure the power switch is OFF. Plug your grill into an outlet or power source, and then load the hopper with pellets. Check the temperature probe on the left side of the barrel to make sure it is clean from dust, grease, or debris. Open the grill lid and turn the power switch ON, turn the temperature gauge to SMOKE, and let it smoke with the lid open for 4-5 minutes.* When the grill is roaring, (it may sound like a jet engine) from under the grill grate, close the lid. Set the temperature to your desired cooking temperature and you’re ready to grill, smoke, bake, braise, roast, and BBQ all your favorite recipes into culinary masterpieces.

*The 2016 Pro Series grills have Advanced Grilling Logic (AGL), which gives you precision temperature control. The Pros fire up faster and get hotter quicker, so you can close the lid after just 2-3 minutes of the pre-heating cycle.
