http://www.Cavetools.com- this video thoroughly explains the differences between gas grilling, and charcoal grilling.

While some may prefer using a gas grill, others will opt for the charcoal.

In terms of overall food quality, charcoal usually comes out trumps in the gas grilling vs charcoal grilling battle.

Charcoal bbq grills can be used for more than just regular cooking though. Having charcoal allows the charcoal grills to become a custom smoker. This adds a whole new dimension to the grilling experience and becoming a smoking master can only be achieved with great knowledge of charcoal grilling. This same technique cannot be executed on a gas grill.

There are disadvantages to using charcoal grills though, and their grey areas are also where gas grills prevail. First, is that charcoal grills do take much longer to prepare. Preparation time for a charcoal grill is a minimum of a 20 minute pre-heat. This is because the chars must slowly light and then spread the fire amongst the other rocks of char, before they become ashed all over.

Secondly, gas grills are very easy to clean. Simply lift out the different components and wash separately. This is not quite so easy with a charcoal grill; ash regularly collects at the bottom of the grill and is both dusty and extremely messy. This however, can be made easier by using a tin foil base to place the charcoals on.
