Hi, Jarrod from BBQ Spit Rotisseries here.
Today I’m going to take you through the features of the Traeger Pro Series Pellet Grills and Smokers.
These are fantastic grilling and smoking units for the kind of person that wants the taste of low, slow cooking without all of the effort. This leaves you more time to entertain your friends, have a few beers or wines and not spend your time stressing about your cook.
Pellet grills work quite simply by adding cooking wood pellets, available in a range of flavours, to the pellet hopper, turning the unit on, setting the temperature you require and letting the grill do the rest.
So how does it work?
When the unit is on, an auger feeds the pellets through to the barrel-shaped smoking chamber where they are heated with a heat rod and fall in to the firepot. A fan blows the smoke and heat around the meat in the smoking chamber eventually flowing out of the smoke stack. Cleaning out the firepot after a cook is easy. Simply remove the grill, grease pan and heat baffle, get the vacuum and suck the ash out of the firepot.
A handy feature of the Pro Series Grills is the hopper clean out system. This is great for when you want to easily swap over the flavour of pellets you are using, ready for your next cook. Just place a clean bucket or container underneath the hopper, unscrew the door and let the pellets flow out.
You control the heat of the Traeger Grill with the Digital Controller. Simply set and forget! It comes with 2, colour-coded, meat probe thermometers that you plug in to the probe plug-in holes, feed through in to the barrel and spike in to the meat. You can easily check the temperature of the meat you’ve probed by pressing the Probe Selector button during your cook.
You don’t have to worry about drippings causing flare ups because Traeger Grills cook using indirect heat. Any drippings fall on to the Grease Drain Pan and are channelled to the Grease Bucket on the outside of the unit.
The Pro Series 22 has a grilling space of 574 square inches and the Pro Series 34 has 884 square inches of grilling space, making cooking for a group of mates a cinch. There’s plenty of room to cook those delicious racks of ribs, t-bone steaks, briskets, roasts and even pizzas!
Setting up the grill was easy with written instructions provided, along with pictures. I couldn’t believe it when I opened the box to find Traeger actually included a screw driver to help put it together, along with the allen key, wrenches and bolts. They have thought of everything to make setting up these grills easy. It even comes with a guide of how many beers it is estimated you will go through as you set it up!
The Pro Series Traeger Grills come with a new sawhorse design for the legs and wheels, giving it even more strength and manoeuvrability than the previous grills. It comes with a sturdy handle on the side of the unit to easily pick it up and move it around. The new, thicker wheels won’t get stuck in your decking or cracks in the concrete either and you can now easily wheel it on to grass rough surfaces.
The Pro Series 22 doesn’t take up much space either. It measures around 1m long, 1.2m tall and 70cm wide, easy enough to wheel in and out of the shed or garage to keep it out of the elements when you’re not cooking.
Traeger provide a handy cookbook with their grills so you can become a BBQ grilling pro in no time at all. There are heaps of recipes that include what flavoured pellets, sauces and spices to use for different cooks from starters to chicken, beef, pork, lamb, poultry and even seafood, vegetables, baked goods and desserts.
The Owner’s Manual provides a quick reference guide containing safety information, instructions for firing up your grill and using your grill as well as cleaning and maintenance instructions to keep you cooking for years to come.
The Traeger Pro Series 22 and 34 both come with 3 year warranties so you know it’s a quality unit. Traeger are pioneers in pellet grill cooking so you have years of knowledge and expertise instilled in each grill.
You can kit out your Traeger with a range of accessories including covers, top and bottom shelves, extra grilling racks, rib racks, chicken thrones and pizza stones.
So just a quick recap, Traeger Grills are great for:
